What to do…

So now that I find myself with a website, I am needing to come up with a shedule of some nature on how often I will post updates, and more importantly, whether I will continue to keep this as a blog, or perhaps start pushing towards a full blown webpage. Granted, I need to further my knowledge on webpage creation before I can do so, but I’m learning more every day.

This isn’t the first website I’ve created, once upon a time I ran one of the more popular australian gaming websites. Unfortunatley due to time constraints, and other commitments, I was not able to give the site the attention it needed… which really hurt, as to say it was my ‘pride and joy’ would have been an understatement. However, when you have a large number of members, that lack of attention can become a major issue, very quickly. Unfortunately, things just hit the fan, one day I had a lot of time for the site, then literally within a week, I was in a new role at work, and finding myself with next to no free time. Plus my own personal issues thrown into the mix, but I will spare you those details. The site is still around from what I know, albeit a bit smaller, but still kicking

There really is no purpose to this post, just an update to keep me and the site moving along, and just to get me in the swing of having a blog. To be honest, I enjoy having a place to just speak my mind… no matter if anyone is actually reading or not. I’m not a big talker… but I am a big typer. I’m just hoping that I keep it up, and that my plans for this site will continue to happen, and come to fruition.

I have some big ideas, and believe that I am on the brink of something massive…. I realise how clichéd that sounds, but its true. Bonsai needs to be brought to the 21st century, and I hope to find the way to do it… or at least to help it grow within Australia. If I can do that, I will be a happy man

Ready for the workshop!

Well, after a visit to the Bonsai Emporium this weekend, I’m now offically ready for Bill Valavanis’ workshop at the end of the month. Am very excited to see what I can learn from this man I’ve heard (and read) so much about.

Unfortunately, I also managed to blow my back out again, preforming the most mundane of tasks (I think I was getting a drink of water). So it was a most interesting trip to try and look for cascade stock… when I can’t even  reach down to do my own shoes up!!

Due to that, I spent most of the weekend off my back and as such didn’t get a oppurtunity to post up my new logo… which is lucky in a way, as I’ve decided to change it a little anyway. So, stay tuned!

Back to the cascade! I ended up choosing a nice juniper, well… I picked the best one I could see without being able to bend down and have a look at it. I’m hoping that it will be enough to work with, I didn’t scrape on the price… too much at least… I decided to go for one that wasn’t in a training pot, which saved me half the price, allowing me to get better stock. Just hope that the lack of pot won’t be a problem in the workshop, I guess I could just wack it in the pot beforehand… but I don’t want to stress the plant anymore then I need to so…. we’ll see I guess.

Anyways, providing there is enough light when I get home, I will post some pics of the stock

Slowly but surely…

Well, over the weekend I was able create a logo for the website that I am quite happy with and think will work well with the site. Stupidly, I left it on my flash drive at home, so will upload in a couple of hours time.

First problem I’ve encountered … is my time. I’ve simply bitten off more then I can chew at the moment, offering my services (free) to a few worthy causes (more info later), which has slowed my progress on this site to a crawl.

Obviously, my priorities are my Bonsai, and I have created the site to help document that progess! So, my first related post will be my excited news that I have put my name down for a Bill Valavanis workshop on the 26th of October. If you are interested, make sure to contact the Bonsai Society of WA (or the relevant club in your state) for more information. The workshop I will be attending is on Cascade style, however he will be here for two workshops (second is on Literati) and a Interactive Critique.

My first step for the workshop will be getting myself some decent stock! Cascade’s have never really tickled my fancy (granted I’ve not been learning long), as I do not see them naturally all that often in my area. That hasn’t stopped me from signing up though, and I’m sure that after the course, I’ll have a different opinion of Cascades. In the end, its developing my skills, and that is the key.

So off it will be to the Bonsai Emporium this weekend or next to see what stock I can get my hands on for a reasonable price. Expect some pictures soon!

Thats it for now, I will continue to upgrade the site until it is functioning as I’d like, as at the moment I’m just running this ‘bare bones’ whilst I close off my other projects. Expect more updates soon!

The start of something new!

Firstly, welcome to my blog! My intention is to document my learning progression through bonsai, and post any additional information I may come across on my journey. The hope is to create my own webpage which not only documents my journey, but is also full of information related to bonsai within Australia
